I’m such a big softie. This has been a 3 for me ever since I first heard the album. It is not as immediate or memorable as either of their previous 2 LP’s, but it was always going to be more of a grower due to the darker, more experimental edge it has.

The guitar lines and some of the songs have finally won me over enough to raise the rating to a 3.5… But only just. It’s still an inferior album to their first 2.

I'm not a big softie anymore. Back to a 3.

apart from cornerstone, this album is devoid of everything that made this band (and particularly 'whatever people say i am) worthwhile for me

I never thought I would say this but I think this is my favourite AM album which is strange because If I saw them live I would prefer to see stuff from their first 2 records but something about this album just feels complete.

I have to agree with you on this one WhiteNoise. I think their first 2 albums are meant to be a little bit more fun and this one is where shit got real.

"shit got real."

haha so true! Their debut is probably technically their best for nostalgia reasons but this is just solid as a rock.

Yeah 'I bet you look good' and 'brian storm' among other singles got tons of exposure in Australia and they're definitley big but they sort of just played the BDO before this was released and once this dropped you didn't hear about them anywhere :S

Maybe, but I don't think anyone can deny that this is worse than their previous work, and that is why it is such a letdown.

Man, never got this one.
It's inconsistent- Potion Approaching has the catchiest verse ever, accompanied with such a bland chorus.

I've only listened to the first three songs but so far it sounds very promising (other than Brick By Brick, which I already knew I wasn't too keen on).
