Then listen to the entire debut album first. The second half of that album is awesome.

This is more consistent than the new Lacina Coil, Within Temptation, Autumn, 90% of the Massacre Records roster, etc. etc.

3.5 barely. Her vocals pushed the album to reach the 3.5

I don't know how you pulled this review off... I wouldn't have made it past the first paragraph. It's hard to talk about a band with such little substance. I really enjoyed one song of their last album- 'All Around Me'. Great review, Trey.

holy fucking shit that is one ugly album cover.
|

probably gonna avoid this

Listening to this eliminates the theory that Paramore are only famous because Flyleaf didn't get there first.
Paramore > Flyleaf.
And I hate Paramore.

paramore is better

The review posted here is terrible. The fact that even the slightest mention of the concept of the concept album shows that the writer of the review knows nothing of music and nothing about Flyleaf. While this is a drastic depart from their past album, and it does have a more commercial sound, that does not in any way mean that it's a bad album. In fact, it's more artistic and genuine that the last. While personally I prefer the actual instrumental-music of the last album myself, this album is much stronger lyrically. If you read the narritive-passages of each song (which correlates to the actual story of the concept album), you'll have much more appreciation for the album. It no longer will be a random series of songs, but "beautified diversity functioning as one body" (part of the lyrics on beautiful bride, which despite the reviewers protests is possibly the strongest song in the album). Forget about the unimportant reviews that diluted writers will write and take this album and its message to heart.

^Wow.
This is one of the most unremarkable bands I've ever heard.

The only thing I heard off of this was Beautiful Bride and it was pretty bad. It just sounded plain and really awkward/forced.

I agree with Bloodyrose...I think Flyleaf have made a more solid, structured album and every song I've listened to so far seems to coincide with a larger theme. I think they've definitely tried for a more "mainstream" sound on this album too but on the other hand I've found more references to Christian themes within their lyrics which may be why they're songs seem a bit forced. I think that overall they went in a good direction.
Oh and in response to the person who was confused on the cover art...I think it refers to the overthrowing of a king...which again goes back to that more Christian undertone I'm getting on this album.

Lacey's vocal mannerisms are still awful.
Ugh, that's what I hated about the first album. Is there anything on this album as annoying as her vocals in the opening of Cassie?

Bloodyrose I love fanboy rants, so thank you. You almost fooled me by not naming yourself FlyLeafFan95 or something, but as soon as I started to read the blind rant and noticed the "5" it was still very obvious. So, let's address your concerns... The fact that even the slightest mention of the concept of the concept album shows that the writer of the review knows nothing of music and nothing about Flyleaf. The album's "concept" is weak and didn't merit any mention. It doesn't add or take away from the music at all. Also, not mentioning the concept doesn't display any lack of musical knowledge only an apathetic view of the lyrical content. While this is a drastic depart from their past album, and it does have a more commercial sound, that does not in any way mean that it's a bad album. First, I feel compelled to point out that "3" equals good, so this review never called the album bad. Second, this isn't a drastic departure from the last album. She dropped most of her screaming and it's more poppy - that's it.In fact, it's more artistic and genuine that the last. That's a personal opinion that no one can dispute. The fact of the matter is that you seem to be very taken by the lyrics, an element of this album that didn't phase me at all, so our opinions will definitely be different.(part of the lyrics on beautiful bride, which despite the reviewers protests is possibly the strongest song in the album). It's crap ;)Forget about the unimportant reviews that diluted writers will write and take this album and its message to heart. Again, you seem way too focused on this "message" than on the actual album. It's obviously skewing your perspective. On the other hand, if you live your life with such low standards (you did give this a 5) then you'll probably live a happy, uneventful life at least.
