Damn, I gotta get to work! Hah, if I do end up getting laid off here at the university I suppose that'll be some extra time to listen to all this music
| |
Wait, ya gonna get laid off?
| |
might, depends on funding and enrollment numbers.. I may keep my job in admissions, I may be able to get a transfer to student finance, or I may get laid off... I'll know by early January though. It's brutal man, fuckin economy. Luckily, they give me a few weeks severance pay and unemployment here in Illinois is some of the best in the U.S., so I'll survive until I find a new job.
| |
gotta love it. you can never be too sure these days.
| |
That's alright, still sucks though. The whole economy/recession thing didn't hit us too hard out here, I know only about 2 people who lost their jobs and in both of their cases it was on the cards anyway
| |
yeah, if I am not out drinking and getting crazy, playing guitar, or watching movies on my vacation...I am on here and catching up on music.
| |
the economy is terrible in michigan...I am pretty lucky to have a job here.
| |
What's ya line of work? ^
| |
I work in scientific research, a laboratory. I am a technician who runs studies for pharma companies.
| |
Dude, that's awesome. Obviously something you've always wanted to do?
| |
haha, actually not really. I got my degree in broadcasting and marketing, but when I couldn't find jobs in that line of work. A friend hooked me up with this job, and I have been doing it for 4 years. It is interesting, sometimes it can be fun, but I am getting to the point where I need something else. I've had fun doing it.
| |
^wow, how'd you go from marketing/broadcasting to scientific research? that's awesome. My degree is in marketing and media studies, and I work in admissions at a grad school so I guess I'm not really working in my field either hah. Although my job has a pretty heavy sales aspect to it..
| |
You're probably the first person i've talked too who ended up in that line of work because they needed a job, hence my question. I've got a few mates working in similar fields as you and they've been striving to get there for a long time.
| |
I don't know exactly, haha. Basically, I was hurting for a job. A friend of mine put in a good word for me, and it pretty good pay for first job after college. With no scientific background, let's just say, I have learned a lot. This was a who you know situation.
| |
Kinda like sput, it's who ya know
| |
I don't come up with the drugs or anything. I just test them out in my department, run them, and see if they work. Make sure no side effects occur and what not.
| |
^sounds like a pretty important job man. you get to test any of them yourself???? ;-)
| |
Now that would be an interesting job
Some great "guess what happened to me at work today" stories to be had
| |
^they came out with a show about that here in the states, just two dudes who made all their money being what basically amounted to lab rats. Can't remember what it was called.... testers maybe? It was on FX last year right after It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia... shit, oh well.
I just remember one episode where one of the guys woke up and the other dude was complaining about milk coming from his nipples. To prove it, he walked over and lactated in his roommate's coffee.
| |
Okay, maybe not such a cool job after all......
