It's so unique. If we have learned one thing, it's that finns do not give a single fuck about norms

and standards.

Some of the melodies on here are incredible. Few odd vox here and there cannot reduce the overall experience.

This is the transition album that puts dynamics greatly into play for Amorphis. It is beyond stellar and a classic.

Cares was a pretty mindblowing song in 1996. First that easy listening part, then the techno beats.

Best Pasi-era Amorphis hands down. Tales is classic but this album is so much fun.

Nah, Tales is best. This is still sick, though.

Tales is great. I used to jam them both equally but these days I find myself returning to this album more. Tales has a better folk atmosphere no doubt but hasn't aged all that well. Elegy is a more interesting record, and the melodies on here are just incredible. It's a forgotten gem for sure.

Honestly, Finnish metal is pretty convention-based compared to other countries. I mean the last 6 albums by these guys have all been the same

Not to mention Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Insomnium (until possibly now), etc

"is that a compliment or not" ha, i think what he meant is that they don't necessarily need to fit the mold of what they are expected to play music wise. Want a moog solo on a metal record, go for it, want an all out Spanish dance break in the middle of a song, sure thing.
