Fantastic review Tyler, I'll probably still check this out but considering I wasn't head-over-heels for Mabool I probably will dislike this just as you did. I expected that you wouldn't like it, but wasn't expecting a 2.

Mediocre band makes overhyped mediocre album number two. I so called this.

Mabool was anything but mediocre

surely a result of enlisting egomaniac and self-proclaimed super-producer Steven Wilson
I think you can blame this on the band and not on Wilson. Band was never great to begin with.
Awesome review. Called this being a failure.

My love for the exoticness of Middle Eastern Music will make me love this probably. Mabool was great and might have possibly been one of my favorite albums ever if they dropped the metal aspect of it.

Not exclusively, on. It's on the producer to help weed out bad ideas. Quality control. It's the producers job to provide input and Wilson did none of this. Rumours are that he essentially did little more than mix it and left "production" up to the band. If true, it's still his fault. Blame the band for having a lack of direction but part of the producer's job is helping them find their focus.

There's literally zero middle eastern music on this. A few instruments, sure, but they're out of place and forced more often than not.

Wow, so the one hope this album really had isn't even present? What were these guys thinking...

To be honest there wasn't any real 'middle eastern' music on Mabool either, it's just the instrumentation was more prominent.

Looks like Wilson needs to stop being a pretentious douche just because he worked with Opeth and Porcupine Tree and just do his job then.

Well that's a bummer. I really hope I enjoy this when I hear it because this could possibly be the disappointment of the year already.

I think he just mixed it, he didn't produce it - so all the bloatedness you talk about is probably the band's fault.
I'm still gonna listen to this.

I see two problems with this review. The first one is the date it appeared which means that the reviewer didn't have much time to "consume" the album and the second one is the expectation from the album to be Mabool 2.
(sorry for my bad english)

Cocaine is a staff writer... it means he can get access to an album through a stream or w/e weeks before everyone else. Im sure he has had plenty of time to digest it.
