Sorry to break the grammer talk to return to music : D
It arrived today in the post, and I'm very impressed, possibly Ihsahn's best. The saxophone on "A Grave Inversed" is just insane. Only given it two listens so far, but I'm liking what I hear very muchly.

Damn near masterpiece of extreme prog metal. Seems Opeth may finally have some competition! The mixing job is absolutely phenomenal and raises this album up another notch, it just would not be as good without the production of Jens Bogren. Listen to this on a serious stereo or cans/headphone amp/dac.... those 8 string guitars and the bass sound sick! And the saxophone.... oh man the fucking saxophone! Amazing stuff.
A truly excellent slice of music. Very deep technically... gets more enjoyable with every listen.

As far as progressive metal goes this year, this is way stronger and more interesting than the new offerings from In Mourning and In Vein

I'll give this a listen tonight. Angl is one of the most underrated metal albums of the 2000s and was easily my favorite album of 2008.

Woah this is extremely good. A thousand times better than his previous two solo albums. Might grow to a 4.5 with more listens.

Yeah this is awesome and is really flying under the radar on sputnik
|
| |
It's flying under the radar because it's Isahn. He has yet to put out a relevant solo album but judging from the responses heer i might check this out.
|
| |
It's his best for sure.

I'd give this a shot even if you weren't into the first two. I gave them both 3's and this is a very strong 4.

i should probably listen to this

Love the album art.

This is a huge step up from his past two. And it's not like Sputnik hasn't fapped a lot of average, irrelevant albums over the years.

Seriously great review Observer. I've only heard "The Barren Lands" and it fucking ruled. I really hope this is better than his first two albums.
|
| |
Thank you, though that's partly due to Crysis' and Styles' help.
It's better.

Harsh vocals knock this down a bit, but it's still a relatively strong 4. Great stuff.
