Album gets unfairly bashed, but Aeroplane is probably my fave RHCP song.

I guess it was with the way Dave changed the band's sound. Even for the most hardcore chili fan, this was just so different.

Cos he's got his own sound and in some ways it doesn't quite gel with the rest of the band, certainly not in the way Frusciante does/did.

I really like the changes the band made here, though, and I think BSSM was about perfect.

BSSM was indeed perfect. But BSSM and OHM I think are very transitional albums. The earlier albums are much funkier while the later albums are more rock oriented with funk influences. BSSM started that transition and I think OHM was a step too far in the direction of metal/hard-rock for most fans. Once Frusciante returned RHCP turned down the distortion and everyone was happy again, except for the people who liked the more metallic funk.
