A great album destroyed by a horrible mastering decision.

Apparently there is unmastered leak of this floating around the web, I should try and find it.

I didn't know you'd find it so much of a problem you put it down to a 2, Meatplow. Despite the dissapointing production, this has tons of great material.

The material is great indeed (some of my favourite RHCP songs are present) but this literally hurts my ears to listen to.

All the power to you if you can tolerate it, but this is like buying a DVD only to find the original 16:9 widescreen ratio has been squashed to a standard 4:3 and everything looks wrong whilst also being letterboxed so a third of the screen is cut off.

In short, its been tampered with to the point I find it too distracting. It's not so much of a problem on cheap speakers (ipod buds and walmart stereos etc.) but as you climb up the price range in audiophile gear it is revealed to be a very damaged piece of material.

That's just me being picky though.

I don't find it picky at all. Can completely see where you're coming from. Is this the only album by them you have this with or also their later ones?

After this i've only heard By The Way, and back when it first came out I never held such concerns ;] so idk

Plenty of music is pushed "over the limit", of which the vast majority is far from desirable but at least tolerable in a sense. This crossed the line a little too much for me.

Well, By The Way and also Stadium Arcadium are both solid albums, and the production on BTW is better off. The one on SA is kinda flat though, though its a pretty nice listen altogether.

Stadium Arcadium sounded like shit, IMO. Not that stronger production could've compensated much for the truly weak material that the band had to offer. They need to show Rick Rubin the door.

Stadium Arcadium could've been brilliant if it didn't have so much filler

This album sounds really mediocre to me, although I havent heard the whole thing, what I have heard is just alright.
