Hav to agree with ppl here, otherside is the greatest song on the album. yeh it's a fairly simple song but that doesnt matter, it's beauty makes up for its simplicity. This song has become the anthem of me n a few dudes round tewks, where u can usually find us slurping away at our kronies n singin otherside, ahhh bliss. 4.5/5 fo album
3/5 for review
Who am I missing then?
When Slovak and Irons briefly quit to work with their "first" band in the mid 80's they got a replacement drummer and guitarist.
Also i think they had at least one other short-lived guitar player after Slovak's death, but they chose frusciante.
Navarro can lick my nuts

i dont get how anyone hates this cd. i have heard all of their cds and this is by far my favorite one... o and ya my friends sister played scar tissue once for 3 hours in a row so im convinced that alot of girls like this song :D this cd=5/5

you could've said a bit more about the outro-solo to easily.
i mean common, theres like 6 guitars in that thing! SIX!
i love that solo, it puts a smile on my face.

Ok this is my second reviwe my first on slipknot Iowa which is under slipknot self titled page 2 (check that out if you want.)
Ok im gunna make this review a lot better than my Slipknot one cos i know a lot mre bout the Chili's here it goes.
1. Around The World
An amazing opening track with Flea introing with the famous bass solo it's full of ominous guitars and Kiedis bellowing give way to something more upbeat with a fantastic memorable chorus.[score] 9/10
2.Parallel Universe
A surging metronomic rocker with Anthony proclaming himself a 'California King
a great build up with chad's drumming and a chorus that influences any musician.7.5/10
3. Scar Tissue
A remorseful ballad cut from familiar cloth, but it fits them well.
The first single with a video of the band looking worse for wear - a literal realisation of the lyrics. 10/10
4.Otherside
Another hit, another baleful soft/loud semi-ballad expertly delivered with yet a chorus that is as catchy as anything. 9/10
5.Get On Top
Rather disposable, quite possibly sexual, potboiler. tasty wah-wah work from Frusciante, mind. It's one of those tracks you can put on full blast and jump around like someone with a hot poker on their ***.7.5/10
6.Californication
A paean to the darker side of the band's adopted home state.
The album's finest moment by far. With a soulful Frusciante guitar solo near the lasy 3/4 of the song.10/10
7.Easily
A combination of songwriting mastery and sonic muscle that keeps getting higher and higher. With a mellowed chorus which finds Kiedis realeasing the lyrics:
Calling calling for something in the air
Calling Calling i know you must be there.
8/10
8.Porcelain
Easing the foot of the gas a little tooo much, this delicate effort is a ballad too far with chad's simple but effective bass snare bass snare action. One of the albums lesser moments. 6.5/10
9.Emit Remmus
Kiedis recalls a love affair conducted in London during...
see if you can decihpher the backwards title.Overall a pretty good track.
7.5/10
10.I Like Dirt
Quirky, Jerky number to appease 'really' old-school fans.
Presumably not 'dirt' as Alice In Chains would have understood it-
ie, smack. 7.5/10
11.This Velvet Glove
Not too much to say about this track except,
More mid tempo remorse. 7/10
12.Savior
Less a bruised rumination on the human fallibility, more a showcase for Frusciante's sublime guitar, quite a lenghty track but it's all good. 7.5/10
13.Purple Stain
A funked up piece with bawdy statements releasing out lyrics that don't really mean a thing but rhyme.A good little track again for the old-school lovers of the Chili's.7.5/10
14.Right On Time
Well what can you say about this little number, you could say a shouty knockabout. The closest thing to filler here. 6.5/10
15.Road trippin
Well you could say that the album has been slowly sliding downhill, until this whimsical, gorgeous song about a surf trip to end 56 red-hot minutes.
No drums, no bass, just an acoustic guitar,a voice and a melody.
Great stuff. 8/10
Overall this album is an essential purchase for anyone even if you don't like the Chili's just buy it cos you well suck if ain't got this touch of class in you record collection. A breath a fresh air from the letdown of one hot minute, this album rightly deserves a big fat. 10/10

I absolutely love this album. Not only is it a good chill-out album (Scar Tissue, Otherside, Californication, This Velvet Glove, Road Trippin'), but it is so energetic (Around The World, Get On Top, I Like Dirt, Right On Time). It seems that everytime is listen to this album i notice something new, like a really cool backing guitar riff or cool drum moves that i hadn't heard properly before. I could listen to this album over and over and over again.
11/10 from me.
The only crappy track on that album is Porcealin IMO
I agree. Porcelain is probably the worst song the chilis have ever written.
|
| |
Steve-o, I'm really not trying to fault with everything you do, as your reviews are very good, but I don't think you are meant to repeat reviews, or post reviews of another album in a thread. Its a good review though ;) .
Back on the album, its a great album by my favourite band!! Although how did you only give Other Side 7/10??
I agree. Porcelain is probably the worst song the chilis have ever written.
Why, because it's slow?
|
| |
This is one of my favourite albums from them and really got them back on track after the abysmal one hot minute
|
| |
i like this album...gotta be one of their best, but i still like the what hits!? and blood sugar sex magik cd better. most of the songs are good on californication, but a few they were trying to go back to their older days style of music like right on top and possibly purple stain maybe i like dirt too.
Why, because it's slow?
I wouldn't hate a song cause it's slow. It's just so boring with the drums and the static. Errgh.

It has bass. It's an acoustic bass (not upright).

Album Rating: 4.5
Moo. Road Trippin' is a great song, my fave on the album but there is actually a great deal of bass in, acoustic bass 'n' all. You can hear it.
To the fool who said the Chilis suck: What the **** are you doing posting in this review thread if you don't like the Chilis you ***. Get a face, you ***!

Surely one of the greatest albums in the world.
My RHCP fave is in this album. "californication" rocks its the best RHCP song followed by "Other side", "Scar tissue" and "under the bridge" eventhough its not in this album
