Heard this for the 1st time today. Needs more listens. At first, I was confused by the complete lack of a post-hardcore sound... But there's enough good songs as the album goes on to more than save it.
EDIT (36 hours & 4 listens later): Album is really growing on me. Review is spot on regarding a number of points.

Its pretty great. I have no idea why the bonus tracks weren't on the full release though, Let Down is probably the best song of the bunch.

Apparently this band, or most of them are grade A douchebags. I guess it isn't suprising since this band got recognized with a single Paramore raping demo.

Unsure Balls... But you also have to recall that they have had many a member change over their short lifetime. Hell, they are technically now only a trio.
Anyway, I saw your sound-off & as silly as it initially sounded (with all its zaziness), I knew exactly what you meant. And it still could do with a little extra zazz, but over multiple listens, I at least know what they were aiming for finally & this has really grown on me... Almost a full ratings point.

I definitely agreed INITIALLY, but now I'm not so sure.
I also just realised this album is severely back-loaded. It never really struck me before.

A real grower; VersaEmerge’s debut LP ‘Fixed at Zero’ initially seems too poppy, but reveals itself on subsequent listens. Using an array of intricately layered instruments (strings, synths, piano, harp, omnichord, glockenspiel, etc…) to enhance an eerie, cinematic sound, the trio always keeps their songs accessible. Still at their best when recalling their rocky, post-hardcore past (see the title track), the growth & ambition evident here is very promising. It’s all capped off by a 7 minute closer that naturally morphs from acoustic ballad into a brilliantly heavy & swirling coda that outlines just how many deceptively catchy moments there are on this back-loaded album. Recommended Tracks: Fixed at Zero, Mythology, Lost Tree & Up There.

I know a guy who knew the guys personally. It wouldn't be suprising, this band got noticed with only a demo.

I forgot to write "theremin" too. They use that on one of the songs also.
Oh & i agree 'Mind Reader' is pretty ordinary. I intially did not like either of the first 2 songs, but at least the opener is moderately catchy.

Just an fyi, just saw them at Warped, the did indeed play Fire (Aim Your Arrows High), and it was spot-on. Not "terrible" at all. Blake has some legitimate vocal talent outside of only backups
