nah but its like emi had control over it, seeing as dangermouse and sparklehorse did sell their album rights to them. it was an incident of copyright keeping music from being shared

the more it hurts me

especially with the wayne coyne feature, this album sometimes feels like a flaming lips album done right(can't say I'm a fan of them)

to be fair the album is full of a lot of ominous, borderline depressing songs(I'm thinking vic chesnutt and "everytime I'm with you"). I think a lot of songs just have brighter, more psychedelic ways to cover the whole disturbed mood of this album in the vein of insane lullaby, just war, and stars eyes. but I see what you're saying

well the production is a bit dense, but I think the actual quality of the songs is where you and I differ. I sincerely enjoy every part as a songwriting effort, but the production and mood and, let's face it, context of the album make it all the more grander to me.

it definitely leaves a nice amount of space for atmosphere, but a lot of it owes to the fact that Wayne Coyne's voice is fucking mesmerizing

rom, what do you think about what chambered was saying about wishing the album was darker?

I completely get where he's coming from, especially with Revenge leading off. It kind of goes from psychotic and evil to like psychedelic and spacey in the course of the next few tracks, especially by the time you hit Little Girl/Angel's Harp. It bothered me at first, but I've grown to just enjoy the cinematic flow the album has. That doesn't mean I wouldn't have preferred it the other way though.

Little Girl must lyrically be one of the darkest songs on the album

Yeah, Little Girls is weird in the sense that it sounds like some gangster that's like "I'll treat you right" but instead he kills her and shit... Even though he doesn't sing about himself at all. Idk. It's weird. But it's creepy.

Any guesses on the meaning of that?

i'm having trouble interpreting the lyrics, but the mood of the song makes them out to be quite sinister
