Death Valley 69 is the worst song here other than Justice is Might (if we have to count that). Thurston chalks up some big points for I'm Insane and Society is a Hole (and World is Red on Confusion), but Kim is at the top of her game here

Now I think about it, she has 2 of the best songs on EVOL (and none of the worst) and probs the best run on Goo. Peaks early on Daydream and Thurston nails Sister, but she gets extra points for not being an arrogant toerag and for holding down the only great tracks on Washing Machine side-a, so imma agree with Ars

Worst? I can’t get behind that. It’s the first and last songs on here that struck me as the best ones

This album is all about the creepy, tense shit for me. First works great as an early icebreaker, but it's all about the way the middle stretch fogs things up; Death Valley is kinda fine as an inevitable release point but it doesn't catch many of the best qualities of the trip it took to get that

and then there's Halloween as the ultimate comedown jam (if we forget Satan is Boring exists because ofc)

But if you want a straight fix of upfront noise SY, Death Valley's your boi here for sure

Also In the Kingdom #19 is the best song on EVOL

Any of the first four or closer is an acceptable pick for the best on EVOL, but of those In the Kingdom is probably my least fave. Album is a 5 though so you can't lose

Weird that Death Valley and Kingdom are probs the most unrepresentative tracks of their respective albums lol

Those are my favorite EVOL songs as well, along with Death to Our Friends

I love how that one's sequenced, feels like the band's way of saying "Still around? well, fuck you..."

Aside, though, these first 5 Yout records really are pretty perfect, ain't they?

Why does Colton keep listening to Sonic Youth albums if he’s gonna hate them all

Hey now, let's ease off the Cole bashing, it took me a long time to come around to Sonic Youth, and if he moves forward into some of their more melodic stuff with the context here, very well might come back around and see these in a different light. Lord knows I'm glad I didn't start Sonic Youth's discog chronologically, much as I love these ones now
