I'm just not sure it deserves a 1.

for me cutman, the band's past albums were a steady but definite descent to this. The new singer seems to be ripping off the old one, who in turn was ripping off m. shadows. With the addition of the awful ballads and the continued re-use of the same formula that they have been using for three albums now, it fully deserves the 1 in my opinion

Yeah it's a good review in general, but for the love of god can there be a negative melodeath review that doesn't take a shot at the direction In Flames took? I mean, seriously, not is it only cliche as hell to read, it's also quite narrow minded in the sense that, really, would you have wanted them to release 9 The Jester Race albums in a row? And yes I am quite aware you didn't name-drop them specifically, but we all know who you mean under

now turned a watered-down alternative metal or melodic metalcore sound
The only watered-down album they have is A Sense Of Purpose. The others after Clayman are just different in sound. And if you don't like them as much as IF's older work, or you don't like them at all, cool, but it's already been said a hundred times before in a review.

My opinion of in flames is used here because Sonic Syndicate take their worst work, imo a sense of purpose and soundtrack to your escape, and make it that much worse. The reference is used more as a context thing for Sonic Syndicate and just how bad they are, not to take direct shots at In Flames and draw attention to them. I understand that you enjoy much of their post-clayman material, and that's fine, but the fact is that a lot of people don't at all.

I'm not of the group that wants 9 Jester Races, imo the album isn't too awesome anyway, but the fact for many, and yes myself, is that their newer material sounds a lot worse in comparison. Also, In Flames are not the only ones that play generic, cheesy melodeath these days. It seems to me that you being a fan of the band is what is making you angry here, not so much that a In Flames comparison/context is used. When a band is a genre-leader or a most popular group like they are, I don't see what's wrong with people referencing them to make a point, as long as they do it well.

Anyway, the point is that Sonic Syndicate are worse than anything In Flames have ever done. This is not a negative review of In Flames. It's a negative review of Sonic Syndicate.

My point was more that the IF comparisons have been overdone so much in the past already, that it's just cliche to read a negative melodeath review that automatically brings out In Flames to the band's disadvantage. And there are many of those reviews, believe me. When I read that kind of a review, to me, it kind of looks like the reviewer just doesn't have an original thought/intro, and just decides to play it safe by flogging a dead horse, which looks lazy to me.

I do agree though that this isn't a review of In Flames, but a review of Sonic Syndicate, and for that, I apologize.

It's cool and I understand. But these guys do have such a similarity to Avenged Sevenfold and In Flames, though, that it's gonna be hard to find a band that sounds as close as those two.

I'll put it this way, if it was any other band but Sonic Syndicate, I would not have alluded to such a strong negative post-clayman comparison, if that makes you feel better. Like I said, these guys, and perhaps these guys alone, embody what we don't want In Flames to sink to.

that I can understand (the small bits and pieces by this band that I've listened to do warrant an In Flames comparison I guess). Oh and it's not like you just fucked up my day with a negative In Flames comment, I feel perfectly fine fyi ;).

What the hell man, you're giving them way too much credit. You probaly just inflated their egos with that remark. And ftr, Sonic Synidcate is too dynamically challenged to rival S.S.

gonna have to agree with balls here, even Scar Symmetry's worst, Dark Matter Dimensions, is still a good bit better than this

At least Scar Symmetry pulls off the metal/pop thing quite well, excluding Dark Matter Dimensions.

Not even going to waste my time on this if it's so much worse than the rest of their discography, which was also horrible.

The M. Shadows comparisons are confusing me. I'd compare him to a modern alternative rock singer before Shadows, more of a... I don't know. A band like 12 Stones mixed with Soilwork.

Also, I get the Scar Symmetry comparison. I mean, one can rip something really good off and make the sound one is ripping off sound baaad.

12 stones maybe, but i don't really hear the soilwork in Biggs. The shadows comparison is more for old singer Johansson, but it seems to me that Biggs is just trying to copy the old guy, and for some obvious reasons of course

I'll go back and check out Biggs, it must have become more subtle second hand with the new singer.
