It's probably going to be in my top three (top, possibly?) of 2010. Depends; there are a lot of monster releases set for later this year.
Album is awesome. Their best? Possibly. Gotta give it a few more listens

Yeah Willie, been a huge fan of everything they've done. Draining The Waterheart is my favorite, with the The Tatterdemalion Express a close second. Thus far this is my least favorite but that honestly doesn't say much... seeing as I've got one rated 5, the other 4.5... I'm willing to let this grow on me, the main issue I have is that some of the ambient-ish elements of this album were explored and more seamlessly implemented into Draining The Waterheart ("Fantasia" to be exact.)
I like the change in direction, because these guys are so damn versatile and clearly in love with the music... it's good to see them push their own boundaries. The vocals, especially on "Starmaker," are borderline black metal at times rather than traditional doom... the effect is pretty hair-raising and exciting, though in the end I still prefer the overall style and direction of DTW.

I'm re-listening to this right now, because at work earlier today one of the tracks later into the
album blew my mind and might just be the best Mar de Grises song to date... will edit when I find
it... [edit: Actually it's one of the first few, "The Bell And The Solar Gust." Some of the best
drumming, riffs, and transitions of their career.]

Perhaps because they weren't making any money..
Anyway, excited to listen to this.

the main issue I have is that some of the ambient-ish elements of this album were explored and more seamlessly implemented into Draining The Waterheart ("Fantasia" to be exact.) I think they're used more on this album, and it also seemed to be intentional that they weren't entirely integrated in every song. Actually it's one of the first few, "The Bell And The Solar Gust." Some of the best
drumming, riffs, and transitions of their career. Yeah. I think it's probably their best song.Perhaps because they weren't making any money.. I was thinking that it probably had more to do with doom being so damn boring to play, but you're probably onto something.
