i really like fortress because through being crazy and hard to follow, it was accessible, almost in a reverse-psychology sort of way. this still seems pretty fast paced and outrageous, but sounds like it would take a while to grow on me.

There's a recent interview with the band in GW that said they realized that the most appealing songs were the ones with constant tempo throughout. That's why this one is a lot more straightforward sounding, rhythmically.

I don't think they were the most appealing

Good concise review, Adam. I agree that is is really impressive that PtH can stay so consistent with each album.

And this month has SOOO much good prog metal coming out, it's redic.

With Tyler not reviewing this and you being Adam Thomas I thought this was going to get a 2.5.

Great review man, have a pos.

Never liked this band before, but I'm really starting to dig them. Even their older stuff. Good review.

Also, John Malkovich is one of the greatest actors ever so good analogy.

katatonia does all singing metal extremely well. Blind Guardian does it terribly. Protest the Hero does it in such a middle-of-the-road fashion that it's painful coming from the amazingness that is their first two releases. Counterparts has officially taken best -core band for me now

i don't see what would be a more appropriate approach considering their sound, but this is not the place to discuss such things.
