Enjoyed this more than Periphery's S/T i think.

lol this is quite the review, i like it though.
Album is really awesome. Those vocals kill me with how powerful they are.

Great review. Don't let the negs bother you-it's a solid album as well.

Haven't heard the album yet, was extremely unimpressed the the EP though. Most of the riffs were sooooo boring after one listen through. Guess I'll check this out for Dan's vocals if nothing else.

Aaaah you guys make me feel warm inside.
On a side note, I was surprised by the dislike for the album based on the comments, the soundoffs all make it seem like this is god. 3.5 is relatively objective methinks

This is incredibly dull. Going to give it a couple more chances though, seeing as a lot of people are saying the opposite.

Can't wait to listen to this album sometime soon.

I think the album is too little too late. Over half the album is the EP they released only a few months ago which hardly makes it fantastic value for money (for those that bought it) and the rest of the songs have been available long before the release.
Simply put, this just isn't an original release. Even Periphery had atleast ONE original song (Captain On - which is actually really good).
I mean, this is a good, solid album and I'm sure anyone who hasn't been listening to this stuff for three years will enjoy it, but it's pretty dull for long time listeners.

phalanx: i remember hearing most of this about five years ago when Acle was still posting on the meshuggah forums.
But I was riding my 'completely forgot about this' high when i wrote the review, and its a mindset I recommend : p

Meh, been following this project for years and years and the culmination is 50% thrill 50% utter disappointment.
Tesseracts rhythm section is going to do huge things, but the regurgitation of unmemorable-stale-djenty-rhythm-
lower-string-riff after unmemorable-stale-djenty-rhythm-lower-string-riff really makes this a dull release. There's
too much open string abuse and limitless chugging to call the guitars innovative or solid at all. And that's coming
from a guitar player that adores some of the shit this band pulls of.
The production is pretty meh. The sterile, cold and clean production works well for the ambient parts of the album
(April is absolutely stellar and a massive improvement), but it renders heavy songs like Sunrise a bit of a laugh.
Compare the old version to the newer; it's lost all it's grit, rawness and Dan's clean vocals sound like a forgettable
rush job in contrast with the memorable lines and hooks found in other songs. It used to be my favorite among older
Tesseract material, I've skipped it ever since hearing it's newer incarnation. That's pretty bad.
PS the 16 quid deal for the 'special edition' is a pretty big joke. Just get the normal version if you decide to pick it up
in stores.

Periphery destroys this so hard
Couldn't agree more. Listened to the whole thing last night, was pretty bad. They have potential but the style that they're doing this in is so stale.
|
| |
^I couldn't agree more. It's a solid album, but there's a lack of "catchyness". Not to mention half the album is their EP. I mean, they've taken so long to release this, so why are there only a handful of new tracks?

It's a solid album, but there's a lack of "catchyness"
I don't think this was designed to be very "catchy". The difference here is that there seems to be one "singular" mood that continues throughout the album, whereas Periphery's seemed more allover the place (though there is nothing wrong with that). Call it weird but there is a meditative aspect/sense that this album brings (kinda like Tool's newer stuff) except more technical/groovy. Quite honestly both rule in their own ways i find.

Are the Concealing Fate songs the exact same as on the EP, or have they been remastered?

I just pretend that they released this five years ago
which they did
back to the minimal techno for me

Liked this a lot more than i thought i would.
Nascent and Eden are killer.

No catchyness, no melody, no good riffs. The whole album feels like one song. I can't tell the songs apart. I guess they have consistency and mood, but, damn, I was expecting a little...MORE.

Fuckin' hell, next time I'll just shit on the page and see if I can get more negs.
