No problem Davey. Out of interest do you think any song on this is an improvement over anything on Shallow Seas (bar the shit-pile that is "The poor and the prevailent") because I'm finding it hard to find anything here that I'd put in an Emery playlist.

Thanks defjaw. And hopefully you only had a read of the review & not the 4 million comments that followed.

Great to hear you are liking all the songs I thought you would Acanthus. And yeah, 'You Wanted It' is definitely the most infectious. I just prefer 'The Curse of Perfect Days' over it though.

Well said Leealis... & that's sort of what I was trying to get at in my conclusion. I really feel that they've tried to progress on this album, even if they knew the end product would not be better than 'ISSWS'.

I have no issue with those thoughts supertouchox2. As I said at the end of the 2nd paragraph of the review, I wanted a little more of that intricate guitar sound that 'ISSWS' had.

I'm unsure what your question is Rosco? Are you asking if the best song here is better than the 11th song on 'ISSWS'? Of course it is! Exaggerating less... For example, I would prefer 'The Cheval Glass' (only my 3rd fave here) over 'Butchers Mouth'.

I'm going to confess that this is my first Emery album, though based on what I've listened to from their previous I'm going to have to get that eventually; I rather enjoy working backwards through discographies.

Will rate by the end of the day probably.

i actually really enjoyed i never got to see the west coast, but in general i'm not a huge fan of acoustics. next time i listen to this, i think i'm gonna play it right after you wanted it and see how it affects the flow.

Emery's 5th LP 'We Do What We Want' could be post-hardcore's second finest..... of 2011

I didn't know that 2011 had any other post-hardcore albums...

Ooh, I had not realised that Acanthus. There's definitely some stuff from their discog that you'll love. While I obviously think 'ISSWS' is a classic, I think I still believe that 'Walls' (from their debut LP) is their best individual song. You wanna hear "beastly", click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW9_cklGbOg

Let me know how that goes CrimsonChin. I never actually did that myself, although I did listen to them separately as well as the album backwards (which is just a weird thing I like to do).

Thomas, I'd count FFAFriend as post-hardcore.

Great review Davey.

I really liked ISSWS, think I prefer the less complicated vocal melodies on this though.

Plus, I said "could be".

Thanks Jon. Yeah, Adam's argument on the vocal melodies was rather convincing. Unsure that automatically makes better songs, music, etc... though.

Ahh the duelling vocals.... love that. Since I'm aware of them I'm probably going to miss them on this release a bit, as I'm assuming Devon leaving but a wrench in those works?

Also shared this review as well as "You Wanted It" with some of FB friends, we'll see if I can garner some more listens/views.

Yeah, I agree that less vocals not necessarily making better songs, but in this case I enjoy not having as much aural clutter. It's just a personal preference thing I guess, I like being able to focus on the instruments more than the vocalists.

Sort of Acanthus. Maybe I shouldn't have made you aware, but they cover pretty well, with some nice layered vocals & Toby basically doing every thing. One thing that video also showed that Josh does nowhere near all the screaming, which is what a lot of people believe because he does so live.

Fair call Jon. We like what we like & we do what we want.

haha. It was more defjaw, before the mods got to it.

Ok, it's 1:30 in the morning here, so I'm hitting the hay. I'll leave the summary as is overnight & change it to a more generic & hated one in the morning.
