well maybe not loved Davey, but i very much liked. Mind you, i was like 13. Bad music was the least of my teenage problems ;)

I really have never enjoyed anything by this band except for "The Last Sunrise" remix they did for the Underworld:Evolution soundtrack.

Uh. This review isn't hilarious, Davey. I thought you were gonna do a hilarious alt review.

"I remember catching a video by these guys about 5 years ago and thinking it was a joke of some sorts."
My streak is still alive. I have yet to see an Aiden video. It's probably why my ratings for their albums a re a little more lenient than most.
"People have actually subjected themselves to this, at least 4 Sputnikers. You guys should get a medal or something."
Add I See Stars & Forever The Sickest Kids to my list & I should be knighted.

I did think strongly about it Phideaux. Hell, I even thought about posting a serious one & a funny one separately at the same time... & making out as if I was some other staffer. It all got too complicated though.

Should I even bother listening to it? =/
Everyone seems to dislike it.

Probably not Stephen... Unless you are really bored.
One thing I wanted to squeeze into the review & couldn't find a place for it (see what I mean about "culling" Stephen), was that the album is just a touch over 30 minutes long. However, almost every track has an annoying, momentum-stalling 15-20 seconds worth of various samples & sound-effects at the end of them. So it's really only about 27-28 minutes long.

Wow. I'd appreciate an album being short for a reason (ala Los Campesinos!) but 27 minutes it ridiculous for this type of album. =(
But I'll take your advice and skip it unless I am super bored. =)

From memory, their last album 'Knives' was even shorter at around 26 minutes. It was about 25 minutes too long!
|

Haha. You liked the closing minute, knowing you'd never have to listen to it again. =)
|

I know. I don't get why some people do that in their art. Why they pass themselves as idiotic.

Great review Davey, still loving your work.
As a fan of Alkaline I have always thought 'I should like Aiden', but really I can't get into them. Friends have force fed me various albums and none of them have left an impression. I jumped on itunes to sample this album and was bored with the 30 second samples, and when it got to 'Radio', I threw a massive tantrum and walked away thinking 'who do they think they are?!?!'

I'm totally with you here andcas. Based on their singles; he comes off as naive but I'm sure that's not the case. Maybe it is but at least in his interviews; he's rather sarcastic, a little charming too.

really good review
this band

Exactly. It's far more effective when the music reflects the artist in a more realistic setting. The fact of the matter is; he's not vampire no matter how desperate he is. =)

This sounds really really bad.

It only semi-surprises me that Wil is a nice guy. It gets back to what I wrote in the 1st paragraph of the review. They were clearly riding a derivative wave as long as they could. They got caught out when they thought it would take them all the way to mainstreeam success. I mean, look at Bert McCracken from The Used. He's a prick in real life & on stage. It all comes natural. LOL.
Thanks Coma. I don't compare Aiden to Alk3 as much as I'd compare them to an AFI or MCR. LOL at the tantrum, but totally understandable. If you couldn't tell from the review, I just shook my head for the entirety of the song the 1st time I heard it. It probably didn't help that I had no notice that it was an Alk3 cover. It's not like 'Hysteria' was a Def Leppard or Muse cover.
Thanks Aids.
It is Irving. If I wasn't such a sucker for gang vocals, this would be close to a 1.

Definitely andcas. The Used at least had their own style & it came through on subsequent records. Ditto for MCR.

Ughhh this album.

I just got a mental pucture of these guys impersonating cavemen because I thought that said "Uggg".
