With help from producer Brian McTernan, Detroit quintet Fireworks look to stretch out & grow on 2nd LP 'Gospel'. While it's not as immediately hooky as it's excellent predecessor, this album has good replay value with many key & tempo changes taking a few listens to sink in. Extra guitar layers, smoother vocals & the band's usual clever lyrics all play a major role, even if they still need to work on variety, with the 2 slower tracks falling short. When they get it right (see the opener & closer) though, this matured effort helps distinguish Fireworks from the pop-punk pack. Recommended Tracks: The Wild Bunch, Arrows, Life Is Killing Me & X's on Trees.
