pitchfork will 8.8-9.2 this i feel like.. and for some reason I can't get into Halocene.. It kinda drags on a little too long and starts to bore me, but this review nailed it on the head that without the rest of the band it wouldnt work at all..

I really like when justin uses the high/low dynamic with his voice... when he does the falsetto becomes all the more special

One word to describe the sound of For Emma could be "Emotional" or "Depressing" or "Isolated"

The word that comes to my mind for this album is "Dramatic"

even though this is lush and gorgeous, i just can't help but be put off by the really senseless lyrics. i don't care how much anyone argues with me, but i don't see most of the lyrics are anything but pointless poetic images and phrases whriled one after the other.

that being said, it is beautiful to listen to. Beth/Rest is gorgeous.

>mfw the album opens with a post-rock song, that transitions into some killswitch double bass weirdness...and then ends with an 80's Kenny Loggins type song.

also, what the hell...the music is awesome. Kill the quadruple tracked vocals, they only work well in a minimalistic setting i.e emma, w/ acoustic guitar. They completely take over the song on this album.

only issue i have is that Holocene sounds like a track of one of his old tunes of Hazelton's

the first three tracks, 'calgary' and 'beth/rest' are my favourites. 'towers' is a great track but i feel it sounds slightly out of place
