poltergeist kicks serious ass. also the only songs that obviously arent serious are the mighty masturbator and deconstruction, so i dont know how people are passing the album off as silly

I don't really think it has anything to do with the lyrical content or the "concept" of the album. Granted Devin wanted to make an over the top album, but he takes it way too far here. It's just overkill and not in a good way

I don't think that people who don't like it "don't get it" but I'm pretty surprised at the number of people who disagree with this album. I thought all of the guest appearances (most of which are among my favorite musicians in metal) were perfectly synched and not obnoxiously used, the concept was hysterical in a classic Devin Townsend type way while being a pretty sick metaphor for where he is in life, and as the reviewer said, it's the most layered (and complex) work of his to date. It's epic, funny, emotional, and heavy as fuck. Personally, I don't even understand why people WOULDN'T love this album if they're into Devin.
