That was the god damn song I was trying to think off when writing my last comment: Northern Lights. I really liked that.

Agreed that the title track is a great opener. Does the job well.

I think the rhythm section on this album is awesome. I think if it wasn't, the record could easily be a 2.5/3.

The drum parts were still written by Minsberg, they just weren't played by him.

And Sanders, I had the same feeling about my first listen. I don't think any albums been as immediate fr as this one

I'm curious, Daveyboy: do you think this band could make it in the mainstream, like as far as radio charts go? I've seen lesser bands achieve it, and in my opinion what they had to offer was not nearly as marketable as some of these songs are. Of course you have to factor in smart choices made by their label, but that aside I think a jam like "Miscommunication" could very well make it.

That's why my Reco By Reviewer section is there Sanders.

Really Adam? That's a huge rating discrepancy & I'm unsure I could ever have an album so dependant on a rhythm section. Maybe a punk rock album, if anything.

You see, I wouldn't necessarily call this "immediate". Although, it's sort of difficult to explain, since it's not exactly one that takes a dozen listens to get into either. I guess, with an album that is so lyrically strong, it's hard to take it all in on the first couple of listens... So that's why I wouldn't say it's immediate (which suggests 1st listen).

Thanks KangarooSong. I'm sure you appreciate that I didn't raise this rating to a 4.5. ;-)

I was half expecting a review from you too Leatherneck.

Great question Crowe. The answer with the way you have worded it is "Yes". They clearly have the talent to put it all together. BUT you are insinuating that this is the album that will do it, and (as unpopular as this opinion will be), I do NOT think it will be. Similar to what Adam suggested in his review, the hooks, melodies & variety are all too subtle. The mainstream will not take the time to delve into those subtleties. It's why I suggested greater diversity on the album, which would likely have resulted in maybe 1 or 2 forced failures, but that one standout cut which is usually enough to break a band & then allow people to take that time to further explore those aforementioned subtleties.

Hmmm, I'm usually good at predicting SS's ratings, but I'm not so sure on this one. Depends how Quick Draw McGraw he is feeling.

That's why I wasn't sure how much you'd like it. I think you'll be similar to me in that you'll think about a 3.5, but decide on a 4 if you really get into the lyrical side of things.

i loved the lyrics to Reach for the Sun, esp. Northern Lights. Nothing has hit me that hard so far but there's still time

I think the lyrics are better on this album, but the fact that 'Northern Lights' was a ballad (& there isn't really all that much similar to it here) means that nothing may individually stand out as much to you... At least not at first.
