"Compared to the legions of Cult of Neurisis ripoffs? I believe you're mistaken, my friend."
Implying that Rosetta has their own identifiable sound. Atleast their guitars sound waaaay too much like other shit. Their drummer is great though.
"Yeah, no. No other band makes me want to float endlessly and aimlessly in space.
And you fucks have obviously never been to one of their gigs."
Why would you want to float in space? Am I in a Darkspace thread?

"sup guys im super elite at post metal but my favorite band is rosetta?"
Yes, you heard me. Neurosis is great and all, but i hate Steve's voice with a passion.
"Implying that Rosetta has their own identifiable sound"
Yes, they do. The sound is far more oriented drone/ambient than "other shit", which are more hardcore or doom oriented. The guitarist relies heavily on effects, delays, and sometimes uses a violin bow. It creates a wall of sound i don't find elsewhere.
"Why would you want to float in space? Am I in a Darkspace thread?"
Been fascinated by space since i was a kid. I guess it's why i feel so linked with the band, especially TGS. But i'm still loving their more straightforward approach in this release.

My reviews are usually about 2.5 times this long, but this was a great one. Still a 4 on my end, though some songs are really epic; it simply doesn't feel as special as the first two.

wrong. which is like spelling tomorrow with an "a"

I strongly disagree with your opinion about Post-metal bands being "generic". The number of these bands is still relatively small, so there's no big problem for them to distinguish from each other. Obviously, they share some elements of sound and have similar approach to songwriting, but this is what make them belonging to one genre. Moreover, there are wide opportunities of blending Post-metal with other genres. Examples: Death Metal (Ulcerate), Progressive (Ghost Brigade), Metalcore (Trenches), Black Metal (Tombs), Post-rock (latest Year of No Light). Rosetta has its truly unique sound and they slay live. There's no band like them.
That being said I can't approve the rating, nevertheless I liked the review. Pos.

I never said the genre was generic, although it kinda is, because most bands just take generic post-rock riffs, put some screams in it, a few heavier riffs, and label it post-metal. The part "metal" is way too often forgetten (although you see alot of atmo-sludge), and I am of the opinion that a band really needs to differentiate themselves to be worthy to be listened to.
And as you said, there is plenty of chance for the genre to really evolve, as long as it doesn't take too much influence of post-rock, as that has been done to death.
The superiority of most bands you listed compared to Rosetta backs that up (when looking at originality)

This is great and all, but I don't get why people are saying it's not Post-Metal; if it isn't Post-Metal, what is it? Besides 'Ayil'
and 'Blue Day For Croatoa', it sounds like pretty standard (genre-wise) Post-Metal to me.
'The sound is far more oriented drone/ambient than "other shit", which are more hardcore or doom oriented. The guitarist

The sound is barely drone and ambient, unless our definitions are totally different. And most Post-Metal guitarists I've
heard (and not least Post-Rock) guitarists that rely on effects, delays etc.

eh I think their hardcore approach to this is fairly unique :] they have a distinctive sound to me, I don't know any others quite like them

"The sound is barely drone and ambient"
Man, have you actually listened to the fucking band? Go back listening to TGS and tell me about it. It's still there in their last 2 albums, especially ADOM (Wake/Lift was actually the most post-rock oriented), but you don't notice it because they want to experiment. But the sound stays. Otherwise it wouldn't be the same band ffs.
And Post-metal is a bullshit term. It meens that's it's just bands blending Post-rock and metal. Rosetta adds ambient (yes), drone (yes), space rock, shoegaze (the wall of sound created by the use of some pedals), and post-hardcore.
Quit letting that dumbass label narrow your mind.

"in the vast nebulae and multi-colored gaseous clouds of wonder"
sciencefag here, just pointing out that this makes no sense. those colors are artificially enhanced to be visible and beautiful, most colors in gaseous clouds or nebulae are either outside the visible spectrum of light of the human eye, or too dim for us to see without enhancement. sorry to burst your bubble but space is entirely dead and black to a human
