The clean vocals seem weak compared to their last album, I feel like this is a step backwards.

The cleans were definitely worse than on the last album but the riffs and growls are still top notch. Solid album!

i liked this band when i first heard them, then their music just got monotonous and same-y after a while. havent liked anything theyve done for a while, but might check out a song from this

Those growling in the blackest of bird song are fucking good, but i'm still heartbroken over how bad the cleans are. Wtf....

I was really impressed with this album, it holds its own against Above the Weeping Word.

I tried to listen to this.. idk. The music is just so.. sterile. Like you can tell where every single riff is going before it even gets there. All of chord progressions and melodies are so similar and the atmosphere, well undeniably pretty, is stagnant and feels exactly same in every song. It just doesn't seem like this band really has anything creative to offer... their approach to music just comes off as very single-minded and uninspired.

Aye. It bored me to tears too. I really struggled through the tracks.

they gotta get rid of that adding all the agression shit, doesnt work this band, just keep the emotions running high, how hard is that

Boo hoo. Too much aggression and change. Well, I've got good news. They've got four other albums that are almost identical too one another. You're all safe ;)

I'm not even talking about this album compared to the others... just this album in of itself. I actually like the sound that this band has... but my problem with this specific album is that it doesn't feel like that are doing anything creative with that sound. The entire thing is just so predictable to the point where I can call what note/chord they will change to during a riff that I'm hearing for the first time.

The verses all have that aggressive, melodic riffage that is mostly played at the same tempo and in the same key, and then all of the choruses slow things down, layer in some high-pitched guitar melody (generally all in the same key again), and go for the same atmosphere. It's just so single-minded that even if it doesn't sound bad, it just becomes so dull so quickly.

I wonder if this album's really good. Equivalence/Down with the Sun were the only songs worth listening on the previous one.

I would say the best piece of melodeth ive heard in quite some time.

Ive been spellbound by the tone and musicianship in 'Lay The Ghost To Rest', the guitars emit so much agony and emotion. Best use of clean vocals on the record also.

And 'Song of the Blackest Bird' is fucking masterful!
