Midnight City is sweet. This sounds like the music I'd play to ME

which is M83's darkest album? or a darker shoegazing/dream pop/whatever album in general

m83 doesn't really have a "dark" album so to speak, but Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts is the most shoegaze sounding record, and Saturdays=Youth is the most dream pop sounding one. i guess you could say Before The Dawn Heals Us is sort of in the middle

what's the difference between the two genres?

to put it really simply, dream pop focuses more on light and airy effects-laden vocal melodies, while shoegaze focuses more on loud swirling guitars with heavy distortion and reverb. shoegaze is like dream pop but much more abrasive and noisy.

I don't know if it's been mentioned or not, but you guys should check out The Art of Flight. It's a pretty amazing snowboarding film that led me to this band. Music goes fantastically with untouched peak snowboarding.

in this post i restate my stance that the needle drop is one of the biggest douchebags on the internet whose opinions are grounded in ridiculous bullshit

No seriously, i am pretty "mindopen" for music but a week ago when I listened to this for first time, It sounds to me really flat and "commercionaly", First 3 songs sound dissguasting, there are nothing interisting about that LP. Compared this to Nicolas Jaar or Shlohmo is like to choose beetwen hell and heaven. Midnight City sounds like hook for new Rihanna Song for "Hot 100 Billboard". Cheap club music. I really wondered that LP has so much love.

A few minutes ago I've watched Needledrop review and the guy is on point with this. AMEN
