This album does nothing to add to the genre of djent music, which is already completely saturated.

This is nothing personal but I hate that phrase. There is hardly a genre in the music industry which ISN'T saturated and some of the most saturated genres are the most sputnik-acceptable. Like death metal which is quite possibly the most saturated genre in the whole of music.

I listened to some djent/math metal/whatever before, but somehow it wasn't really convincing to me (even Meshuggah). This album made its way to my heart instantly. Now, when I listen to Meshuggah, TesseracT or Textures, it sounds better than before, and I'm considering re-rating stuff. Basically, these Frenchmen got me into this style.

I completely agree with you. A lot of genres are completely over saturated. I think that is the problem and also the challenge of being in a band. Being able to use the influences that made you want to write music, while also being able find your own unique identity is incredibly hard. It is what separates the great bands, the ones who will be remembered, from the average ones.

Up to this point with djent music, I have yet to hear anyone has done it even close to as good as the originals, Meshuggah. Periphery is one of the only djent bands that I have heard that has been able to take their obvious influences, and combine them with some of their own interesting ideas, to create a semi-original sound.

this is far, far superior to periphery and this is nothing more than a 4

i want to rate it higher but the ambient tracks are long and boring and the whole thing blends together a bit too much. pretty damn impressive though.

I am certainly not saying periphery is the best djent band either. However, I do find that in their songs they at least come up with some very unique melodies played over some equally interesting and challenging chord progressions. With uneven structure, I find most of their melodies to be simple and the chord progressions to be very predictable. I will say though i like uneven strucure's voice miles better than periphery. I think they are capable of pushing this abidjent sound a little further, and with some more interesting song structures could be a very good band.

I can't listen to it for the simple reason that the singer reminds me of Strid in the worst way possible. Whereas Strid has a voice that stands like a mountain, this is a whiny, powerless imitation. Maybe that's why the only song I keep in my rotation is Finale. Overindulgent track but sweet progressions, albeit predictable, at the start.

false, I think those softer ambient tracks are crucial to the flow of this. album would not be as good honestly.

it's just droning, it's not ambient music it's ambient noise, if they really wanted 2 minutes of ambient noise I'm sure they could have put it as the intro to a track but having it as a whole separate track is pointless
