Dropping in to say that I'm in love with this album.

Xtoxin, the album's sound in general is a lot denser than that of her debut, wouldn't say it's especially loud though. Glad to hear you're enjoying it! a few songs from lungs (like Dog Days) got overplayed but I can't see that happening with this.

Alright. I've never had a problem with a song being overplayed (as far as I'm concerned, I can turn the radio off, and it's not the band's fault anyways). It was just that song in particular. It just somehow annoyed me + the fact that it was ubiquitous (walk into a mall and what's playing? walk into my friend's house, what are they playing?)
A lot of the album does sound pretty similar though.

I just think this review is a bit inflated
But it matches the album, so...

Percussion is insane, album is incredibly consistent throughout, and her voice is obviously flawless.
But lack of diversity and lack of a killer stand out track keeps this from being as good as it could be.
Still, there are like 8 songs I could consider the best on the album.

I feel like Lungs was built much more around her voice.
So for those that just wanted to hear her sing some catchy songs might be disappointed, but for those that wanted a more musically ambitious album, they should be satisfied.

Good review; pos. Loving this album from the first spin - not into much pop but when it's as fresh and accomplished as this i don't care.

Great review, amazing album. I do disagree with your statement that the album peaks in the first half; imo it really ramps up starting with No Light, No Light. both halves are excellent though so it doesn't really matter.

Try the other way around. Lungs was plenty ambitious, this feels like her sticking to her main sound ("Dog Days Are Over" etc.) and seeing what she can do with it. I prefer ambition.

Album sounds completely different than Lungs.

So you're saying that "Girl With One Eye" wasn't ambitious? I did a viva voce on how she uses variety on "Lungs", I can't do that with this, I would be shot down.
I'm not saying this is bad, I'm just saying that when it comes to "ambition", Lungs had more. This may be dense and cohesive, I won't argue that point, but that doesn't mean it has variety, and that's what I dislike about this album.

This was the soundtrack to my entire day. I love No Light, no light and Seven Devils, the later makes my hair stand on end.
I really think the album needs more harp shred.

I think I prefer Lungs still. Barely.
