Trey I haven't heard any lacuna, but I'm scared too because they kinda sound/look really shit. Thoughts?[2]

You might actually like this. Try this or Comalies... this one is streaming, though. First comment on this review is the link.

My gf likes this band, everything I hear by them is solid but there's never any songs that make me go "wow"

You think this is that good, huh? Hm... I agree with most of the review though. They definitely improved on what they started on Shallow Life. Andrea actually does a nice job on some of this (like "Intoxicated", which is probably my favorite track here), but there are still too many songs where it seems like he has multiple, extended parts just for the sake of it. There were plenty of songs that were Cristina only or only had sparse backing vocals from him on the older albums. It needs to be that way.

The band still has a lot of improvements to make before becoming really successful at this mainstream rock business. There are good melodies and catchy moments, but so many of these songs have either a weak verse, a weak chorus or something else that holds them back from being great. It's just barely above average.

Also,

second-rate David Draimen (Disturbed)

I've never enjoyed an entire album by them, but certain songs can really get stuck in my head.

Nice to see the albums strengths instead of gripes about how the band sold out, isn't relevant, etc.

I agree and I kind of touched on that in the review. Plus, in the earlier albums alot of his contributions were the quick background growls. He was a founding member of the band and that's the only reason that I can think of that he's still around.

I agree. One of my paragraphs begins with the fact that the band has never really been great at anything in particular, but overall I still think this is a great album.

I try to avoid the immature bitching about bands selling out or giving my opinion on a band's relevance. If a band can still tour and sell CDs, then they're relevant to someone.

Yeah it sucks when bands feature a certain person's voice/instrument more prominently than they should just to spare their friend's feelings basically. I guess it becomes a question of how important the music and your band's success is vs. your personal life.

The Goo Goo Dolls are the worst at that. Their bass player needed to be shut up years ago. Even No Use For A Name used to have the whole one good singer/one terrible singer thing, but they eventually figured it out and silenced him.

I kinda hate that this band isn't nearly as good as they could be. I give up... I'll probably give them another chance though lol

Review is spot on. Great job as always.

But seriously Trey, how can you think this is much better than Imaginaerum?

The REM cover is probably one of the worst covers I have ever heard.

Ah yes, Lacuna Coil, the band who, as you yourself said too, have never really been great at anything, but ain't bad either.

I won't bother with the whole album I think, but if there are a couple of standout tracks that are worth giving a spin to, you could namedrop them here.

Great review btw.

It's amazing how one shitty vocalist can utterly destroy one of the finest songs ever concieved. Until his vocals came in it wasn't too bad.
