This isn't like Jet or Wolfmother at all

I was just comparing the three bands in how they all mimicked legendary bands (beatles, led zeppelin, and in this case, the beach boys)

I've listened to 3 songs and I've already heard 'I Love You' over 5 times. This shit is so corny and fake, I'm gonna go listen to Pet Sounds instead.
Great review Sowing, entertaining read and you made some really good points.

This is the best review of yours I have read in a while, SS. Honest. I can actually hear you in the diction.

Well done.

all music builds on what was done in the past. there is no plagiarism here. you're being entirely hyperbolic. hell, you wank over generic folk artists all the time when that genre has been going a lot longer (and is far more voluminous) than sunshine pop.

You're absolutely correct that all music builds on each other. But I've never found something that so blatantly idolizes a hugely popular band; I could pick any track off of this and it either a) sounds like a Beach Boys b-side or b) is detestably overjoyous and annoying, with no bottom-line substance or talent to speak of

I think you have a problem with happy music. People have been worshiping the Beach Boys for over forty years now; and to be frank I really don't think they sound as much a carbon-copy as people make them out to be. For one, I absolutely hate the Beach Boys and enjoyed this a bit. This is just a case of someone saying something, and everyone agreeing for mere convenience. If someone says this copies the Beach Boys, someone will listen with that in mind and then invoke confirmation bias. Nothing new.

You read any review, positive or negative, and they'll mention how transparent their Beach Boys influence is. And I don't have a problem with happy music, I have a problem with pointless music. None of these songs are saying anything and they just run on and on without ever amounting to anything substantial musically or lyrically.

I don't care whether or not people agree with me, and I didn't write this to sway everyone's opinion towards my own. If people gave this a low rating, it is probably because they think it sucks. You have a different opinion, that's fine, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the site follows a sheep herd mentality

And I will keep defending you because I'm still doing my penance for the time I accidentally wrote 'Deja Vu' instead of 'Deja Entendu' in a thread when you were around and you got really mad about it

I recognized this fact in my post. I'm aware that people are making exorbitant comparisons to the Beach Boys, which is what is frustrating. They are not the first band to do it (ahem The Beatles), nor are they the most convincing replica. If they were as much a carbon copy of the Beach Boys as people contrive, then I would hate this as much as I hate the Beach Boys.

cuz i post in cc threads so often. mind your own business you act like me and sowingseason are at each other's throats when this is about as tame as discourse gets around here.

Although nothing particular captivating or really remarkable about this album, it is pleasant and far from being bad. The last stretch of songs are pretty good, specially It's You.

Although it is definitely influenced by 60's harmonies and breezy summer day vibes, including but not only The Beach boys (and saying that they are mimicking them is really a stretch tbh), there's an underlying influence of Bossa Nova, and it would be really cool to see them get further in that direction.
