I originally rated MPP a 2 or 2.5 back in the day...opinions change, despite all ignorance at the moment. This record is just so interesting and full of great vibes...I remember saying how Shields was going to be better than this (I had low expectations for the band seeing as my AnCo peak ended a year before), how wrong I was.

I posted on the news article when their first single came out that this just sounded jumbled and messy, and I just wasnt "getting it" (probably cause i wasnt on acid)
I initially was called a retard for not understanding all the complex layers and patterns, glad to see that its more the opposite now.
Overall I felt like they tried way too hard to show that they werent main stream or selling out.. when i think panda bear was just worn out from making his solo album and let the rest of them do all the writing.
I think his influence on this album is the biggest thing missing, the perfect balance of panda and avey was what made merriweather so awesome..
