Raul and Greg have said promising things, the 2 tracks they've released aren't that amazing though...

i listened to named after rocky again and really liked it, if they move away from the space-rock so be it

The space-rock was absolutely the best bit of Amplifier for me, I always felt like they were just on the verge of creating a truly awesome space-record with the tracks Matmos and Echo Street, which got me hyped for 'Mystoria' which sounds pretty spacey by the name...
I'm forever searching for a band that have the perfect space-rock sound... Farflung are close and 35007 have it right in terms of atmosphere but there's not that much in terms of musicianship... got any suggestions?

don't think there's a perfect one but you could try these :-
Hypnos 69 - Legacy
Eloy - Ocean
Vespero - Waters of Tomorrow
Nemrud - Ritual
Astra - Black Chord
Samsara blues Experiment - Long Distance Trip

Thanks for the recs, I've heard Samsara Blues Experiment which is awesome but I wouldn't really call it space-rock. I've been meaning to check a few of those, especially Eloy

maybe not, i dunno, lots of stuff gets labelled space rock ranging from psychedelic to bluesy jam stuff, eloy have done some really corny stuff but some of it is good fun

Ah fair enough, for me space-rock is the stuff that really makes you feel like you're floating in
space with the droney atmosphere and bleeps-n-bloops etc but I guess it's a pretty ambiguous genre
Eloy coming up soon, gave Astra a listen, didn't really like it that much, seemed a bit too derivative

I've not heard the latest. After Echo Street I don't want to

It's nothing like Echo Street which is a shame cuz I reckon they could have made a masterpiece in that vein of sound, but Mystoria is quite... comedic at times

Echo Street was so dull. Erm comedic?

Yeah it had some dud moments but the kind of sound they were going for was pretty promising - Matmos is one of their best songs

This is a clear 5. Together with debut and TADH EP their best.

I can't get on with this record. I feel I should have been sucked in by its gravitational field and completely atomised but...I just wasn't. It's a grand piece. Don't get me wrong. But I feel that in it's effort to be as grandiose and progressive as possible it loses it's appeal. I'm a massive Amp fan so I feel a bit guilty! I think it's trying a bit hard and you can sort of tell. I don't want to slander Amplifier becuase as I said, I love em. But their "benchmark" album just doesn't do it for me. I would put the first album way ahead of this.
