I'm not surprised that Zomby has bought into the trap craze, though. He's always been a turd of a person even if he is a talented producer.

Yeah I'm liking this: just keep having to forget the person behind the music in order to enjoy listening.

I don't have a problem with him using trap beats at all - it's not like he's making tracks that sound like Harlem Shake, the way he's using them fits his style well and they're pretty stunning. The beat dropping into Digital Smoke is one of my favorite parts of the album.
My complaint with them would be that it limits the variation on disc 2 a little bit but I'm starting to change my mind about that even - it's great to hear him do almost a full disc of a new style since Disc 1 is reminiscent of his past work. Everything on disc 2 is huge because of the beats while still containing some of his best melodic work.

Who gives a fuck. And if you have to remind yourself of that then you're not really listening then are you?

Come one dude this is pretty weak. Yeah, I care a little bit - it's perfectly normal to want to dislike something made by an asshole. Next time I'll be sure to blind myself before I listen to another album so I can't see the artist name and make sure I'm "really listening."

Not really. What are you investing your time in, his persona or his music? Pick one. Or you know, continue to be melodramatic about everything

The thing is outside factors play into the listening experience. External factors like where your at when listening (surroundings / environment), how your listening (headphones, stereo, etc), and (most importantly) internal factors such as mood greatly affect the listening experience. So if somebody says they don't enjoy an artist because their an asshole, it's simply a negative mental connotation being made towards the music, and shouldn't be automatically dismissed because the process of listening to an album goes far beyond just liking or disliking the sounds themselves. Technically it's just as irrelevant to connect real-life memories and nostalgia to music, because they're as much of outside factors as your opinion of an artists personality. But since those feelings are typically positive, they go unchallenged.

Except your comparing personal experience (like memories) and sensory experiences (listening in the rain/walking around the street at night) with an attitude or persona that in no way influences or impacts the music itself

Who makes the music should be of little significance, unless you're the type of person who makes up your mind beforehand and already has a disposition to not like/hate the music as a result

An attitude or persona can be be both types of experience, as long as it generates a response in you (positive or negative). The act of going an artist's twitter and reading their tweets is both a personal experience (it's something that you can go back to in your mind) and a sensory experience (it generates a response in you), so if you happen to think about how awful Zomby was on twitter last night when your listening to the album and go "i don't like this", it's the same as listening to the album and thinking about rainy walks outside and going "i like this". And sure attitude and persona influences the music, why do you think Zomby's such a perfectionist who meticulously crafts his music? Because of his attitude towards music making and the way he wants to be personified by us.
