I am revisiting this and I think it might be underrated. It's way less homogenous than I remember and it has some fantastic guitar work. I think it was received so poorly because it came after Simple Math, but it's time for a reappraisal!

This has aged exceptionally well in my opinion. I wasn't a massive fan when it first released, but over the years I've found this to be more re-visitable than both Simple Math and METN for some reason.

I've really grown to love this album. I come back to this more than most of their other stuff anyways, can't even explain why. It just hits hard.

The thing about this record is that it's not by any means poor or even average -- it's a good album for sure -- but it's very straightforward. It always reminded me of the way that Daisy felt so flat and basic on the heels of TDAG, only Daisy had some eerie themes and a mysterious atmosphere that helped it to age wonderfully, whereas this is just beefed up guitars and dad rock energy. I still dig it, but to me MO isn't the same without the huge emotional component.

yeah he's not a strong enough songwriter when it comes to aggression (except on parts of METN) so this just feels a bit cringe most of the time

Trees is phenomenal. It's impossible not to get pumped at the 2:18 mark, just reaches heights I never thought these guys could go.

I have to admit that I finally gave Hope the time it deserves, and it's completely changed my outlook on this album as well.

Live version of this dropped on spotify and is significantly better than the studio version. Always found these songs to sound better in their live sets.
