Honestly, I think I'd dig. I really loved tech death like Necrophagist and Decapitated back in the day, and then I crossed over into stuff like BTBAM, Veil of Maya, Born of Osiris, etc.

great review as always, although i thought primordial sound was pretty weak. some of these tracks are just astounding though

i think there are some great parts but its brought down by them trying too hard to be prog and comes off as really contrived

Thanks Jordan!

And c'mon guys. I can totally get where you're coming from, Simbolic- I'd likely feel more similarly if I didn't have such a soft spot for the band.

@Omaha

yeah i loved exoplanet it just seems as if they've lost their unique direction they started with and instead are incorporating more popular prog metal nuances instead of expanding

I see. Do you really feel The Contortionist started off with a unique identity, though? Exoplanet is a perfect album in my eyes, but I still see it as an amalgam of concepts I feel I'd already heard before.

yeah it tool the influences and turned it into a sound that was completely their own. Like how incantation took the osdm of death and morbid angel and combined it with Autopsy doom to make their own unique concoction of metal. Also i feel like exoplanet had much more of a natural flow whereas i find this to be a bit disjointed as far as song structure goes

i don't get how people can really love Expolanet THAT much. its cool. the pieces all sound good, but they don't flow that well together. Intrinsic was getting there...but not quite

this is amazing. everything works. it just sounds so fluid, so on point and like every member in the band wanted what is there. oh god. its so good. ;-;

no way i mean conspire for instance is just the epitome of wtf its like weird off timed riff that sounds weird into the full on chug (not even good chug like exo) and then that break without vocals that goes on for a fair while and im just sitting there like "umm where is this song going" then the random clean vocals come in like ughhhhhhhhh and it just feels like a mess

I do miss Carpenter, even though I enjoy Lessard on here.

Amazing album, production is flawless. From the very beginning it just sucks you in. Beautiful and crushing.

I'd say Thrive or The Parable are my faves atm. Also the drum work in Integration is a mindfuck.
