'even though I think "riot grrrl" is a borderline misogynistic term, in the sense that they're only pointing out gender in the first place. Almost like they're saying "yeah, they're women, but they can still rock!" '

I wouldn't necessarily say that. I think the term stemmed from their disenchantment with the position of women in society, so basically it was a call for action. So the term is to be taken literally - riot. girls.

Yeah that makes sense. I'll definitely watch it eventually, since it is a topic of interest and I have massive respect for the movement itself, I was just uncertain regarding the origins of the title

Since you've seen the documentary, was it the bands themselves that came up with the label, or was it the publications/critics/etc.?"

It was a self given term.

Skimmed through the Wiki page earlier, must've accidentally skipped that part somehow.

Pappy was right, it was derived from the name of a magazine, thanks for reminding me to double-check

"but how? :/ i think i like the first song quite a bit actually."

I dunno, everytime you comment on an album you have basically the opposite reaction than I would have

guessed. Which is fine btw, that was not a slight against you.
