She's got certain emotional strength behind those vocals. When she's holding out notes (listening to Taste at the moment) I just want her to carry on with them.
Fantastic percussion here too, really hearing the comparisons to radiohead in that regard.

Well said Hopelust. There is indeed times when I want her to let loose with her voice more than she does... But restraint does come in handy at times also. It's a tough balancing act.
And percussion is their interesting musical parts. I recall YouTube'ing some live (in-studio) stuff they did a while back and it's quite fascinating to see.

Agreed, I also believe less can be more. This shit is criiiiisp on vinyl. Sounds really puuurdy.

Is it green vinyl like the album cover?

I had hoped. I really did; for it to be some water-like colour, transparent and all. Alas, it is a classic noir.

is this (as sputnik is suggesting to be related) like AnCo?

Thought this was solid after one listen. I tried to love F//P a lot but found it was a lot of boringness sandwhiched between two great songs. I was very pleased with this

Is anything truly like Animal Collective? I'd say this album shares less with that group than Braids' debut LP, so maybe check that out first.
Totally agree tcat. In Kind was especially awesome, but from memory that was recorded before they lost their 4th member and tacked on to the album more than anything else.

not even a little bit

Well, it's not as if I put 'MPP' at the top of the recos list.

I like AnCo, if that's anything.

No. (a) because I think they're over-rated, and (b) because this album isn't much like them.

good review champ. i've heard mixed things about this but really enjoyed the track you posted. i especially like the latter half. it seems like a commentary on the whole perception of females dressing skimpy and therefore being subjected to verbal and physical harassment

Thanks Matt. Miniskirt is just awesome.
This LP will undoubtedly be polarizing. Pitting it simply though, it will predominantly come down to whether listeners like the broad indie sound being made a touch more accessible. I do, many don't.

a touch more accessible? id argue its a playing field more accessible honestly. native speaker was a bit more accessible than flourish // perish but it still had tracks like lammicken that haphazardly dive the album into dark and unexpected territories

Yeah, maybe a fair call. But it's all relative in a sense. I mean, this isn't exactly radio fodder. It's not quite London Grammar or even Chvrches.
