they didn't have to be awful, they just ended up that way.

So they basically sound like Imagine Dragons now? Good idea fame-wise I guess, since that's what they seem to be after.

Basically, yeah. When I heard they were ditching the banjos I thought it would only be a good thing, but they seem to have lost their vitality. This should have been an awakening but instead it's boring, tired, and simple.

As soon as you said that on this album Mumford likes to dress vapid things up real nice, my mind drifted to Imagine Dragons. They sound really "big" as well, which actually is cool, I like that, but there's just very little substance.

It's just too poppy for me. Sigh No More was great, but they've gone downhill ever since then.

Smoke and Mirrors was unbearable, I have a feeling this is inoffensive enough not to surpass it as WOTY

I'm wondering who read this review actually.

Just as the banjo was a gimmick – a tool used to capitalize on the folk-pop fad of the late 2000s – its absence is also a ploy of its own.

I mean it's just paraphrasing what I already said, albeit in a more succinct way. With that said, I do like the new FB posts vs. the old ones.

Look on the bright side, if it wasn't for your review that beautiful statement would've never existed

I don't find this record to be as offensively bad as Smoke + Mirrors, but it's an absolute chore to get through.

The whole quiet, sad lyrics buildup to the bombastic moments are littered on seemingly every song and lose any semblance of genuine emotion. Unfortunately, it seems that's really the only thing they do well.

I really do wish that they weren't joking when they said they'd do a doom folk album,
even if it sucked it would have still been so much more interesting
