Just don't feel like it fits with the rest

Yeah I feel that, but I love it all the same. It's a great country rock tune and also very strong lyrically. As I said in my review, it's a call for purpose much like the rest of the album.

Maybe it'll click for me later, only gave it one spin after all

Yeah it took a while to grow on me when I first heard this. It's probably still my least favorite on this, but the album is a hard 5 for me.

His new is very good to but not as immediate. How did you like that?

I loved that, it's in my top 10 of the year. It took a bit to grow on me, but the songwriting on it is also really great. It's not as singular as this, but a great achievement on its own.

You should check out some of the Drive-By Truckers' (the band he used to be in) stuff too, if you haven't.

Never got the chance to spin Something More than Free. I ought to. And yeah, Motel feels horribly out of place on here, but far from a bad song.

Yeah i don't mean to say it's bad just outta place.
Which album of theirs should i check first?

Try Decoration Day, which had Jason Isbell on it, or Southern Rock Opera, their best-known. When Isbell was with them he wrote about three songs per album. The DBTs' stuff is pretty different from Isbell's solo stuff, it's more southern rock, but their songwriting is just as amazing.

Yeah he's great live. Really knows how to bring the songs to life in the live setting.

Morning's rough
Don't give a damn about the mission
Has no aesthetic or tradition
Only lessons never learned
I'm pretty sure every single line on this album is pure lyrical gold.
