"There was a time when Shinedown was destined to become one of the greatest rock bands of the early 2000s."

Aaaaaaaand you lost me.

Only good track is Oblivion. Because the album should be obliterated. Not the worst I've ever heard. Just a fall from grace.

I know that line is a little bit of a wtf moment, but their early commercial success actually had them pointing towards becoming the next big Soundgarden-ish rock band. The album that really screwed them IMO was Amaryllis, that derailed all the momentum they had going and now this album finally extinguished any signs of relevance.

I'm a bit baffled that fans are actually accepting this, well some of them anyways. They're like "yeah well they had to change at some point." What, they had to go down the Nickelback-influenced cock rock sound rather than continuing the heavier, more melodic root they built for themselves from the very beginning? I mean sure a record like this was most likely inevitable, but even then it should've been so much better.

You're arguing logic with fans of a mainstream radio rock band, I don't know what you're expecting.

eh point, but Shinedown was definitely one of the better mainstream radio rock bands out there.

I anticipated this album after the amazing release of Amaryllis, and got very disappointed... just why....

Bumped my rating up a tad. A few of the songs did grow on me, especially the first three or so. As derivative and uninspired State of My Head is, it's definitely got a chorus that sticks in your head. Wouldn't be surprised to see it become a crossover hit.

I haven't listened to this album. But have always like the band backed by an angelic voice. The only song i know from this is cut the cord and it's one of the very few things on mainstream radio that is worth a shit.

I want to think it's just an old fan not liking a new direction but sadly with the rest of the feedback I expect not...

I pretty much agree with everything you said, but I'd have to say I personally enjoy State of my Head quite a bit.

I like this less than I once did but it's still not bad. If they could go back to their Leave a Whisper sound, that'd be awesome. Not sure that will ever happen.
