I saw her live last earlier this year. She was a nervous wreck on stage and tried to scream sometimes and it was very uncomfortable to watch. Also the songs weren't even recognizable from the studio versions aside from lyrics.

There was an electric cellist thought. That was cool

Oh, I love "Make a Shadow", especially "Heart Heart Head" because I always forget that she bursts into high-pitched screaming at the end and I only remember when it just so happens that I'm listening to it at work.

"This quirky, edgy & uncompromising talent has nothing to be sorry for"

Yikes DaveyBoy, I just looked up the lyrics to Lemon Eyes and you're right. I guess lyrics aren't her strong suit?

As per usual, Davey attempts to single-handedly justify the existence of the Recommended by Reviewer section.

Didn't expect to like this as much as I did, Motel and Desire are great jams. Record gets creepier and creepier as you go on, though.

Great review Davey!

I really dig the album and her style. Definitely agree with the comparisons you made in the review, but I'd add NIN in there as well. She mentioned in interviews that she's a big Trent Reznor fan and you can definitely hear it in some of the synths and programming. I think it's cool to hear that kind of influence in this kind of music.

I will say, I think the album works best when she's doing the stripped back acoustic stuff like "I Really Want You To Hate Me", "The Morning After", and "Feather". It feels more authentic and emotional. "Desire", "Sorry" and "Lemon Eyes" are all great songs, but they sound like she has one foot in the indie/alt rock world and one foot in the manufactured teen pop world.

The sample in "Motel" felt a bit forced the first time I heard it, but the key change that follows it awesome and makes it feel like it does serve a purpose. I think that song is great.

I'd like to hear more aggressive stuff like "Go" from her last EP, but judging from its exclusion from this album, it seems like she's not into making that kind of music at this time.
