I did the same cosmic over praise when I was younger about certain things. I did it for Meshuggah. and if this live compilation that's rated nearly Classic isn't allowed such praise for when even the cosmos don't give a fuck, then I'll take everything in life seriously.

i mean 95% of "music journalism" could just completely get rid of the written parts and leave the rating and serve the exact same purpose so i just try to actually write about something instead of just slog through useless comparisons and dumb descriptions of what drums sound like. its just boring and not really fun to write tbh. but i guess you do have a point.

I can't write for shit, I don't care for it. I can speak in eloquence that still makes my wife wet and have read enough to converse with "philosophers" and the like at length. I can destroy others writing and arguments but why... cmon... to take any of this shit seriously is astounding. you all need to smoke something.

and that's completely your prerogative. frankly i think you're better than to make such banal excuses for why writing should or could be bad, instead of actually applying constructive feedback to fixing these issues of occasional incoherence, but to each their own.

the thing is u did manage to actually write about something in the 3rd and 4th paragraphs, but you didnt actually say anything in the first and second. it was all just bullshit.

lol relinquished come on, people oft fall back on the whole 'oh you guys actually take this seriously?' argument which is just a bullshit rearguard defense to justify a person's lack of writing talent (hype isn't a bad writer though, this is just a case of bad writing). we're not expecting some highly intellectual, elegantly written review, but there are some standards in writing... like being able to convey points in a coherent way

I agree with Potsy on this one tbh. Like as much as I love ae I would have rather read something less hyperbolic and more descriptive of the contents of the album, especially given the fact that it's a staff review for a relatively new release.

this is fanboyism on full display. you can CLEARLY see that. like I said earlier, I personally don't have anything against it cuz I could consider myself one the same, a fan of AE, and I also don't take anything on this seriously, if it's the writing or the daily defecation of intelligence. that's also my "prerogative". whether I advise others towards better writing or let it be, that's also another.

hype might've not taken this submission seriously. so what? you guys came in here with expectations, apparently not met. again so what? a tiny fight with tiny victories given out to no one.



edit: ocean's point I can understand now that this whole thing was fleshed out. but my answer to that is, in regards to AE's sound, at this point we already know how they'd sound here. their live sets are around youtube where they always change it up, they toured recently and since then concertgoers said they sounded like EXAI with their changeups. maybe this review isn't for the casual listener (or reader), but I don't see anyone in this thread that hasn't listen to Autechre.
