Not sure this is all that much of a step down from Animal Joy but I'm in total agreement this doesn't come close to Rook or the best moments of TGA

"Prime" is really really pretty. Also I think I like them better since they joined sub pop.

It's not a bad opener, it sounds like a pimped up version of so many previous Shearwater songs (particularly 'Black Eyes').
When I first heard the intro all I could think of was 'Candy Shoppe' by Emeralds, I love their album 'Does it Look Like I'm Here?'

Definitely check out The Black Angel's first album if you haven't checked them out, it's phenomenal. I feel they have progressively gotten worse with subsequent releases though.

This is really good, band has yet to make a poor album imo.

Agreed.

Definitely remains a solid 3.5/5 for me. In what has been a pretty unremarkable year in music so far this still means it's right up there as one of the best things I've listened to so far

That will change this Friday. Just discovered the new O'Brother and it is rocking 2016.

I feel quite bad for Shearwater. They keep on releasing good Pop-Rock albums, but people just don't give a damn. I honestly don't really remember a single Shearwater album that was really underwhelming. I mean, they do have better ones and worse ones (like Fellow Travelers, but that's a covers album, so it's understandible that it's not going to be a killer), but for the most part, it's solid and listenable.

It's a great album, really pleased I didn't rate it a 3/5 in the review. Has it grown on me? A bit, maybe the true rating would be a 3.7/5
I still prefer Rook and maybe TGA but I think this was a little step up from Animal Joy and actually bodes well for their future development

I know that this isn't "special" in any regard but the songwriting great, he's always been a amazing vocalist and the glossy production actually adds something to their sound imo. Tbh they remind me of a lot of the good qualities U2 used to have, without most of the baggage.
I just wish "Quiet Americans" would have been cut, because urgh...
