hey this is actually pretty damn good. rihanna has always been a guilty pleasure artist for me but i've always preferred her collaborations (take care, princess of china), although she has a lot of great singles from her albums, but the albums as a whole are usually pretty weak

"rihanna following beyonce's precedent"
she need to flow her in the vocal department too. But I'll give Rihanna credit for trying new things and making her music a bit more interesting.

Drake is so bad on work tho

Wasn't a big fan, although I can appreciate Rihanna's more artsy approach to pop music on this one. "James Joint" and "Needed Me" are solid tracks, but "Kiss it Better", "Work" and "Higher" are awful. The rest ranges from mediocre to tolerable imo (but mostly mediocre).

Seems like people are split on "Higher" but I personally love it. not as good as the song right before it, but I've never heard Rihanna be quite that powerful vocally before.
|
| |
In my opinion, it's not.
|
| |
The higher notes on... well, on "Higher" really don't do it for me. I know, it's supposed to be emotional, but it just flat out annoyed me.

Nothing's more annoying than "Work".

"More Artsy" "trying new things" "a bit more interesting"
Yeah I can see it now. Rihanna slamming the demo of this down onto the record execs desk raising two fingers into their faces defiantly stating "listen you blood sucking fucks, I ain't compromising for you or anybody. I needed to make this album for my own personal development and you pigs are going to have to deal with it, if it's commercial suicide then so be it, I'm taking you slags down with me"
