-"I'm not sure if that was extremely sexist or feminist" was the response I got from a co-worker-
About your comment or about the album? ;-)

"the other songwriters argument is boring here, beyonce's a control freak and you can tell she has authority over every aspect of the music"
I disagree. As a creative art it's not enough that she manages the other people who make the music to get the credit for it's importance. If she is the one penning the narrative then kudos to her. If someone else is then no.

I gotta say I love this review length. I wish Sput would put a word limit on reviews and cap them between 500 and 1000.

the other songwriters argument is boring here, beyonce's a control freak and you can tell she has authority over every aspect of the music i disagree (not completely tho), simply because of the nature of most of the lyrics in this album (which are like really good). beyonce's lyrics are more powerful when coming from her, by her, in her own perspective. take some of that away, and you lose much of what she has to over - her personality through her music.

God the rolling stone top 50 this year is atrocious and I even have most of the albums on it rated higher than the sput average

idk man this album doesn't feel like the kind of cultural statement AOTYs usually are. I mean, I know it's ridiculous to compare but there isn't a single album, I feel like, this year that stood out above the pack the way To Pimp a Butterfly did. I mean this is a pretty good album, but it doesn't feel anywhere near as important, musically or socially. I guess some years are just like that though
