"Transilvanian Hunger" is Darkthone's best song. I don't really care for this band that much, but they have some great albums. "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" is their best.

The title track is Darkthrone's best song by far. Too bad Darkthrone's last 3 albums sucked some big balls.

I can not believe that the leading review of this album states that the 2nd half of this album is sung by Count Grisnakh. That seriously undermines any credibility of this website, especially since people are voting for it as a good review! This guy clearly doesn't know shit about this album.

He did write the lyrics for the last four, but yeah, he didn't contribute vocals at all.

I havent listened to this in a couple of months. I think I'll listen to this when I'm done with Silent Waters.

Which is probably for the better, coz it's for the few and not the many.
This we all know, but it's unnecessary to be such an elitist dickwad about it.

No way. It's not even the best on this album.

I think I may review this. This album needs another review.

Sounds good but 3.5 is a little frightening. Hey crysis, did you hear "The Black"'s new album yet? It was Nodveit's last record and was put out this year.

I rated this a 3.5 a long time ago, I'm probably gonna raise it. And no, I'll go check that out now.

Actually, there might be some shit on my last two lists you should checkout. But eyah, The Black has grainy production but cool stuff nonetheless. This review sucks, it's hard to believe their's only one for an album this popular.

Bumped this album up to a 4, it deserves it. Balls, I also contacted the record company who released "Alongside Death" by The Black and got my hands on one of the copies (apparently it was limited to 666 copies haha). I'll review it whenever I get it.

Looking forward to reading that review Crysis.
It's funny how so many people are in love with these guys and Mayhem when they are clearly, IMO, the weakest of the black metal pack. They could be far more interesting and take their music in so many other directions. This and A Blaze In The Northern Sky are all you need by these guys.
|
| |
Weakest of the pack? Naa, i'd save that for Gorgoroth, Marduk, and Carpathian Forest. I don't like Immortal but I know they're good.
Also, that should be fun to read, crysis. This Message Edited On 08.22.08

I just really think these guys are overpraised and really, really repeditive. I know, I know raw black metal is supposed to be repeditive, kind of trance inducing, but these guys just don't cut it for me. I still like this and A Blaze In The Northern Sky, but they will never add up to all of the other bands that came along with them that took chances and added in some great features (symphonic) like Emperor.

Once again, this band and Mayhem are the roots of this genre. ITNSE might not be here if it wasn't for ABITNS or Deathcrush. You have to respect the roots. Black metal has never been about keyboards anyhow and that's why Darkthrone doesn't use keys. Fenriz likes raw music, which Emperor is not. I like both, but that's just the way it is. And really Darkthrone has taken just as many chances as Emperor considering the punk side to their newer stuff. Mayhem has definitely had some failed experiments as well such as with The Grand Declaration of War.

I would actually credit Bathory for being the roots of the genre.

1.2.3. I'd say Bathory and Hellhammer would be the two, possibly Cletic Frost but that's debatable. Fuck Venom with a passion.
