"trying to revive a classic is almost never a good idea"

or worse, trying to capitalize on past successes and eventually making something that sounds dated and horribly written just for the sake of releasing another album, is also NOT a good idea

what you guys are failing to mention is that this record was a failed attempt of damage control.....the previous 3 records were not good, fans already alienated the band, and recording this was what they thought would be the solution

that's what i said in the above comment, they tried to capitalize on the success of their previous album (because they tried to win their fans back) and instead of doing sth new and original, they showed complete lack of vision by making a sequel of their best album

again, NOT a great plan, just laziness

i thought HITNF, Q2K, and Tribe were all indeed a 'new' style for them, certainly an original style for them as none of them were like their previous efforts, but they just weren't good and to the point where they then abandoned their vision that you mentioned....they then went back and tried to capitalize on past successes.....PUSH THE PANIC BUTTON!!!

hahaha

Haven't listen a single note from those albums, so yeah, you're probably right, they might have tried to do sth different but it didn't work out. At least they were bold enough to try.

On another note, they also tried to change their style back in 2011 with DtC and we all remember what was the aftermath of that masterpiece !! XD

Not gonna defend DtC but please don't blame it all on the founding members (aside from Tate). Queensryche became a "Geoff Tate and his Session Men" thing, on this album already. The idea for Mindcrime II came from Tate's wife. It could have been much much worse... well... DtC happened.

"need to check it a couple more times to be sure but no, first 3 listens didn't reveal anything special or memorable"

Not even Re-Arrange You? You may have earned the choice to give up at this point haha.

Tribe is a good album imo, with a few great songs. HITNF def has its gems too if you ask me (my 3.0 is kinda out of spite though, had it been another band I'd probably 2.5 it)

Oh I definitely do! The combination of raw nwobhm with the more intricate song structure is pretty awesome. How come we don't see the ep on those "Best EP" lists on here?

you're right manos, i tend to forget about it.....and that is due to my old age haha and is not a correlation to the quality of the record

anyhow, on here i enjoy:

Signs say Go

Re-Arrange You

The Chase

If I Could Change It All

An Intentional Confrontation

A Junkie's Blues

Fear City Slide

some of the moments have indeed captured the aura of the original in some of these songs.....my biggest problem here is that the album starts off very slow with mediocre at best tunes......if i do listen to it, i start at Signs Say Go which would be what The Needle Lies is to Mindcrime I, in my opinion of course

"The idea for Mindcrime II came from Tate's wife"

lol

I don't know if that's true, but if it is, i have more than one reason to blame the entire band then. Tate for letting his wife interfering, and the rest of the band for allowing her opinion to pass...

Oh I do but always felt weird listening to him on stuff that is not his or fantasy themed. Dunno if this makes any sense haha.
