TVC I'll give this 6 months then you know I'll drop my rating down to that enticing 0.5

I've still got a few releases from last week to try so they may top this, haven't heard good things about the Strand of Oaks though :-/

I listened to the opener on the Sun Kil Moom and I kinda liked it, I'm still tempted to try the whole thing but I think I'm not going to.

The Strand of Oaks is a noisier version of this, plus I guess the vocals are a bit more 'alive' sounding than here. That's about it. Maybe the songwriting is more unrefined and that'll put some folk off, but I find it more enjoyable.

Listen to the song 'JM' from the last album - his tribute to Jason Molina - and prepare to hear a song ten times better than anything Adams has ever penned.

Nothing off the new one is fit to buff that one's shoes unfortunately.

I actually feel bad now this is on the main page and am kinda hoping it gets a pos staff review to counter me.

If Ryan Adams attempts to sound like Bryan Adams on his next album then the circle is complete, the universe will promptly collapse in on itself resulting in a new big bang and round and round we go.

It's ironic that he's gone in his direction because early in his solo career he once kicked someone out of a show for asking him to play Summer of 69

lol, I like to think that one heckle has continued to have a subconscious effect on the direction of his entire career, burning away at his soul

He's since come around and actually played the song live a couple years back

What is the probability of me preferring the Taylor Swift cover album to this one?

Pretty low, whereas this is never unpleasant that one is occasionally awkward plus it is cringey at times. I actually enjoy it quite abbot though, his rendition of "Wildest Dreams" is amazing.
