Decided to give this a listen and yeah I don't know why I expected that my reaction would be any different. I'm so sick of this kind of shit. Granted, this is more succinct and well-structured compared to so many other bands in the style, but the general style is like the new djent. It's just grating to the ears.

Like how djent grew to be an unshakable trend that you couldn't avoid and just sounded bland, samey and annoying every time a new band did it, this is going that way.

I fear it's gonna get worse before it gets better.

As much as i think your right, i feel the objective quality of this kind of music trumps that sentiment. Besides, every so often we get truly awesome djent albums too. Dawn by Mycelia just came out this year and its the first djent album ive heard in years that i actually really liked.

Agreed hard. Check this tho, you might dig it idk. Their songwriting is actually pretty stellar and the whole album is dynamic as hell. Even restored a tiny bit of faith in djent for me tbh.

I agree this 'subgenre' could go that way but we're still pretty far from being as derivative, overdone and bland as djent. the fact this style takes a lot more skill and finesse and doesn't have the same widespread appeal means not as many bands will be doing it either, unlike djent where all it took is an AxeFX and some 0's

We knew you would and we also knew you'd pretend to hate it

Agreed. Being able to ape Gorguts or Deathspell's style requires pretty incredible technical and compositional aptitude from the get-go, which is part of why dissonant tech is probably my favourite trend in metal atm.
