I can kind of see where you’re coming from Con but imo “Daffy Duck” and “Loch Raven” are a necessary come down and “Turn Into Something” ends things on a high note. I haven’t really gotten into much of their other stuff but the run from this to MPP is pretty incredible.

I think Con is talking about not digging "flesh canoe" which I get

sung tongs->MPP including side projects (even Pullhair Rubeye! re-reverse that shit!) and EPs is truly untouchable

Hmm I see. I'd argue that serves a similar purpose to the opening run as Daffy and Raven do to the album as a whole. Honestly the whole album is a perfect balance between manic bangers and drifty atmospherics, it's like drifting down a river on a humid summer day.

I like "flesh canoe" more than I used to but it def doesn't have the spark of ingenuity that the first two tracks do, and I don't think it's just the slow pace. never loved "bees" much either. but I love "daffy duck" and "loch raven" a lot

I prefer SJ as a whole, and I think that it's their best album, but the whole front half of this legitimately blows my mind every time I hear it. The vocal harmonies on the Purple Bottle are like honey.

I feel like this album gave animal collective a monopoly, within indie music, on the sound of a drumstick hitting a rim

when they switch from the 1 and 5 major chords to the 6 minor in "banshee beet" is the greatest drop of all time

Purple Bottle is quality but Banshee Beat is literally one of my favorite songs of all time. And this is only my third (?) favorite AnCo album, I think.
