Spoon on this record really cement themselves in making a great case to be put on the same tier as The National in terms of top tier output over the past decade plus.

I agree, but it still puts them in the same realm. They don't have to overtake The National to be on the same tier in my eyes. They're one of only a handful of bands, including The National, that don't have a dud in their discography in the past close to two decades, that's an incredible achievement. And it's all been done without repeating themselves but also not bastardizing their core sound that makes them unique.

They're similarly consistent but Spoon's albums are 4-4.5 tier while The National are 4.5-5. But yeah, both incredible artists.

To many... maybe even most but not to all.

omni of course I'm speaking from my own preferences, and The National are my second favorite band of all time so I'm of course biased. Spoon are a top 15 band though.

Who will win in the battle of the 'plod pop/rock' stalwarts - shins, Depeche Mode or dependable spoon? Moist with anticipation.

I guess people are missing my point by saying Spoon aren't as great as The National, all I'm saying is they deserve a seat at the table in regards to consistent rock bands over the years that have churned out fantastic work that has been diverse but haven't settled in terms of quality.

If you want to laugh at my age there's more straightforward ways of saying it Sowing ;)

In all seriousness I am going to check all three this afternoon, I have no idea which I'll like most, so a twinge of mystery at least
